CMMN SNZ VS OPPRESSION AND INJUSTICE
DISCLAIMER!
I'd like to start by stating that both myself and this brand would not like to be associated with politics, but this subject matter is deeply personal to me as a Congolese.
The injustice going on in the Democratic Republic of Congo is too grave for me to not address.
For those who are not aware, the nation has been in suffering since the colonial period, with its historical roots tracing back to the horrors conducted by Leopold II of Belgium, who exploited the area for its rich and natural resources.
Decades later, the same conflicts are being continued via the aid of various militia and armed groups, with the backing of national governments, and Fortune 500 companies (whether they want to admit this or not).
These natural resources include gold, diamonds, and cobalt, as well as many others.
It's sad to say that there is corruption that is taking place within the Congolese government and high ranking politicians, to make sure things stay as they are. In return they receive fortunes that benefit few individuals, whilst natives and civilians are being beaten, mutilated, sexually assaulted, killed, and other horrifying acts.
This is simply a genocide.
The purpose of me mentioning this is to raise awareness to not only Congo's problems, but also the ongoing exploitation and acts against humanity going on in the World (Palestine, Haiti, Sudan, among many others).
We were able to donate £15.00 of each shirt that was sold for the 'Congo Tees' drop on 30th June 2024 (Congo Independence Day), as well as an additional £100.00 to the 'Panzi Foundation' @panzifoundation, a non-profit organisation, who provide compassionate, holistic care for survivors of sexual violence in the DRC.
